Honda / XL 100
« on: November 10, 2018, 04:58:20 PM »
G'day people. Just wondering are engine parts hard to source. I picked up a {I thought complete} K2 100. That's what is marked on the carby to air box rubber boot. I have the 100 motor in a box with engine internals missing, and a 125 motor instead in the frame. Again are parts hard to come by ?

Tech Talk / Rust forming on powder coated frame.
« on: December 27, 2015, 11:59:48 AM »
Long time since my 72 CR125 Husky has seen proper daylight, til yesterday.
I haven't had time, or motivation, to do anything to any of the projects I own.
So rush of enthusiasm, open container, drag said bike outside, and frig, rust spots on powder coated frame, in quite a few places.
Now... what to do ?
Can I paint over with rattle can paint, after clearing rust away, or, does it need to be coated again ?
If it needs to be redone, (coated), I wont bother.
But, if I go down the road of just repainting the whole frame in acrylic, would all powder coating need to be removed, or prepping lightly, ie, and giving frame and rust a light sand down, a shot of primer, then top coat sufficient to stop any lifting of new paint ?
Any information appreciated.

Wanted / 1972 Husqvarna parts wanted
« on: September 03, 2015, 12:19:43 PM »
I asked a few years ago on the forum, for some forks, and any other parts for this model.
Unfortunately, after the post, I lost my job, and started travelling all over for work.
Have finally got a home base, and bikes are now in one place. So pray someone could possibly be able to come up with something.

                                                                                                  Cheers, Mark.

Suzuki / TS185 1984. Local tip find
« on: May 03, 2015, 09:26:44 AM »
What are these bikes like to ride? in two minds what to do with it.
Missing front wheel, carby inards, side covers, seat buggered.
Motor has compression, forks, and shocks nice. Looks like someone had stored it in a shed or such, as it has no surface rust.
Looking closer at it, is the motor from the seventies ? Air cooled, ancient looking thing, for 1984.
Any information, input appreciated.

Yamaha / DT400 colours
« on: December 29, 2014, 05:24:08 PM »
1975-76 paint colour for tank. I know the DT360a is green, but what about these models. I have recently seen one, that had a green tank, yellow guards, and to me it seems a 360. I know the 360 frame engine numbers are 446, and the 400s start at 501. Don't want to ask that question of him. I have google searched, but the models come up mostly as yellow, and to confuse things more, some photos are showing later models, which makes me unsure which are the B/C models. Just curious about the colours, hopefully someone here knows, and can put me straight.

                                                                          Cheers, Mark.

Honda / XR600, need some info, also are they any good ?
« on: August 16, 2014, 12:01:47 PM »
Was working out back of a house, when we noticed said bike sitting proudly on its stand looking a bit weathered, in the next door neighbors yard. Its white, has front, and rear disk brakes, seems to be all there, the tank is plastic, and looks a bit rough. I know its a long shot, but what years roughly could this bike be? Mate is keen to buy, but would like some info prior to approaching owner to see if he wanted to sell. Thanks for any info, sorry, we didn't take any pics.

Wanted / 83 IT490 rear rim
« on: May 10, 2014, 03:14:05 PM »
Wondering if anyone on this forum could possibly have  the above rim sitting around ?
I believe that on this model the rim is gold coloured, which is what I am after.

Honda / 1989 CR250 kickstarter jammed???
« on: November 04, 2012, 01:01:11 PM »
G'day guys, hope someone can help out with this problem. The bike is an 1989 CR250.
Way back in March, after I had a heavy get off, I went to re-start the bike, and the kickstarter wouldn't budge. I pushed the bike back to an open area, put it in gear, and rocked it back n forth, the kickstarter was jammed solid. After some time, and frustration, rocking it, hitting it,I threw the leg back over, and gave it a kick, and it the kickstarter had miraculously freed itself. To my relief,on the third kick,it started. Since then it has been ridden regularly, fouling a plug occassionally, regularly serviced, etc. Until Friday arvo that is.
I had just changed the rubber gasket on the clutch cover, changed the gearbox oil, kicked it over 3-4 times,it ran for 5 seconds, then died like it was flooded,no clunking noises,or anything nasty sounding. Went to kick it over again, and kickstarter is jammed solid. Tried putting it gear and rocking it,didnt hit it this time, though.
I have; Removed the spark plug, and put some wire in,to feel if piston is moving up and down,it is.
           Removed both ignition,and clutch covers.
Removed the clutch. Tried to turn motor over by hand by turning the clutch basket. The piston doesnt go through a full rotation,it stops at tdc,or there abouts. Then turn the clutch basket the other way,and it stops maybe halfway down the bore.
This bike previously had chewed a clutch basket, and bits of it were throughout the gearbox. The bike shop I took it to,flushed out all the bits n pieces, and I believe, were quite thorough in doing so. Could there be some broken pieces still in there?Or is this a Honda thing? Any ideas, help, much appreciated.

                                                                                          Cheers,Mark.

Bike Talk / Which is the better Pre 90 bike to own?
« on: July 13, 2012, 07:22:37 AM »
G'day.
I own a Honda CR250 1989 model. After months of getting it ready,I took it out for a ride,it certainly flies, and handles pretty well too.
Just as matter of curiosity, could you guys who know,or raced in that era, tell me which models in the Pre-90 class, would be the one to own,and race?
Thanks.

                                                                                  Cheers,Mark.
