General Discussion / Re: firko is in intensive care anyone know how he is

After my exciting week in hospital, the idiot gardner cutting my Telsta/Foxtel cable and now my squillion dollar Walkinshaw exhaust system being reduced to staino scrap metal I figured my luck hadn't quite returned yet. I lost my mobile phone yesterday so nothing's changed!
The crap luck continues.....while digging through the Jeep looking for the missing mobile phone (still missing), I noticed that the front passenger floor well carpet was soaked with fluro green radiator anti freeze. A quick squiz of the internet Jeep Grand Cherokee forums and a quick trip to my trusty mechanic verified suspicions that I've blown a heater core, calling for a complete dash removal and at least $1000 in labour alone, nor counting parts. Yep....it's sure been a great year. :'(

Did you get hit with a hefty bill for the cable repair?
One good thing Lozza is that Telstra didn't charge me. The Telstra and Foxtel repair guys both told me that as my cable goes across my neighbours yard, that isn't allowed any more and would usually have to be re-routed, a $600 + fix up. Instead he gave me a free quicky splice repair and told me that as I live in the heart of the working class Western Suburbs, a labour stronghold, we'd be getting priority on the installation of the new National Broadband Network before the next election to garner brownie points for the Gillard Government* so it wouldn't have been worth doing a major repair that would have to be replaced within 18 months anyway.

chase a well established earthmover, he will have some worn out grader blades or points lying around, they are bloody hard.

Funny you should say that, there is some at Tivoli Raceway that have been used as fence posts for years.

The disc front end will have to go if its an 84 model bike and you want to race in pr85 class. And if it does happen to be the ultra rare 85 model 500 well that is out for pre 85 too.
. Front disc should be legal Pre85  on a RM500. 84 TS250 ran a disc.

What is the disc brake front end off?  If it is off a 84 Honda or Kawasaki it might be legal.  To use a TS 250 front disc brake you would have to use the TS forks and I don't think you would want to do that.  Also it is just the disc brake what are the forks off.  Remember the onus of proof rests with the bike owner.
Why would you have to use the TS250 forks Kevin?

Would the TS disc brake attach to the 84 RM drum brakes forks.

At this stage it's only the 2 x 30-39 age groups & side cars. There is not a women's class due to no entries. All others are good to go for Aus titles.
K

That is great.

General Discussion / Re: When si 1000mm measured like 930mm
« on: August 14, 2018, 01:15:58 PM »
Its common in the metal game, try to buy a 2mm thick sheet of steel, Verniers say only 1.9mm
1.2 comes in at 1.1 and 1mm comes in at 0.9mm etc

For all the tonnes they sell they can stretch out the number of sheets per tonne by this 'skimming' practice.

Do they have a +/- 0.1 tolerance on sheet metal?

General Discussion / Re: Facebook or Ozvmx Forum?
« on: June 21, 2018, 10:52:11 AM »
The answer is both.

Facebook is when you want to also look at other things.

I do find the OzVMX FB page a bit difficult because adds for things bikes etc take over.  If there could be a separate link for the For Sale section it would be better.

Also love it or hate it people checked the forum out more when there was a bit of controversy.

Maico / Re: Maico 400 Mega 2, whats it worth.
« on: June 12, 2018, 12:05:49 PM »
The bike can not be called original because it was a 250 MX.  Have you still got that motor?  A 490 will always be worth more.  A 250 MX is worth about 5 to 6 thousand so work from there.  Also as the motor is a GS it is also worth less, in my opinion.  The GS has a higher ratio 5th gear and final drive gear.

I only said it's original as there is not any of those horrible billet parts on it. But no the motor is not the original for that frame. No do not have the 250 motor.
The ignition is the only GS part on the bike as it makes for a smoother easier to start motor.

If the motor is a GS the gearing will be different too. The fifth gear that also runs on the shaft that the front sprocket is on is a different ratio.  I know I changed the gearbox on a 490 from a GS to a MX one by changing the Counter Shaft and the two fifth gear, gears.

I was told by a Shell rep not to use what at that time was called Shell Optimax.  I think it is 98 or 99 RON.  Shell themselves said it is not compatible with two stroke oils because it was designed for fuel injected cars.  I always use the 95 Ron fuels in my Maico.

General Discussion / Re: Australia's First Supercross
« on: April 02, 2018, 01:13:51 PM »
This is an interesting question.

Was the Parramatta one a Supercross or a MX under lights.

From a Queensland point of view we have always considered the meeting Blair Sheppard run at Archerfield in 1979 to be the first Supercross.

Blair brought Mike Bell and Rex Staten out from the US also.

It wasn't called a Supercross, it was called Superbowl of Motocross which is the name Mike Goodwin called the first Supercross in 1972.

I even raced at the Archerfield meeting.

Tech Talk / Re: Improvements to lathe

Just buy some digitial readouts for your lathe.  I think they are about $400.00.  You can also set the readout to read diameter also.  Just like a CNC lathe.
