So, that would be a six speed.

Agreed about the blue seats and the plastic tanks being pigs to drain fuel out of. I have had to up end the bike when low in fuel and away from an external fuel source. The 500s use plenty of fuel too.

Again, I dont know of many 85 CR500 around either. The 2 stroke Husky 500 are a real buzz. Personally I know it is a bit strange, but I like the plastic tank too. It is a bit lower maintenance and I like the look of it.

Dead Dog sold that beastly looking 85 CR500, but it needed a bit of TLC.

Yeah the seat needs some explaining, but it has a fully floating rear end. What is the frame number? Any history on the bike? Does not seem to be many 84 Cr500 around. The technology was behind the times in 84, so perhaps that is why. Is it a US import?

Hey remember Choc wanted $10,500 for his earlier model US import Cr500. Not sure if he got it and sold it or not.

Husqvarna / Re: WR 400 1986 gear box oil How much?

I think we are all using a variety of different oils and grades of oils in the trannies, but it is important as the bikes are good at stuffing gears.

What grade of oil are people running in the trannys of their huskies?

Quite a rare bike too, I would think.

They can leak and lose compression and performance, especially after a bit of use.

I was pleased to get the former CR250, as my cousin had a matching "ML" frame 1977 CR125 on the property that he bought right in the period in perfect and near brand new condition save for it having been used in anger by the previous owner on the race track from new and it came with various alternative ratios etc. He was not an experienced rider and was S##t S####d of the thing and has only ever ridden it a few times to this day.

Some years ago I went to look at what was being advertised as a 1979 WR250, but when I got there this bike had the small aluminium tank, "Bing" carb, small airbox, "ML" frame and the head light was an added on preston petty. Perusal of the engine number revealed a CR250 and not WR250 number. It was a 1977 CR250 even though the former owner would not agree with me on this point.

Yeah, personally I reckon they look a bit more "macho" than the earlier models.

Yeah, I have noticed some unexplained variances from those listed numbers. My theory is low production numbers and maybe predominantly hand assembly. Any ideas?

These prices are in the main only asking prices. Most of us are here because we love these type of bikes, not because we want to make money out of them. These type of prices and associated speculators put these bikes out of reach of a lot of skilled riders and that is a pity. Would it not be a pity to see only wealthy punters riding these bikes in competition, or not to see these bikes used in "anger" because they are too valuable? Surely the quality of competition and VMX in general would suffer.
