technology ???
Doc,make sure the valve clearances are set at 3 + 5 thou with the piston 1/4 inch down the bore past tdc, these weapons have an auto decompressor and if the clearances are too loose then the auto decomp
won't work properley and the starter can't spin it over.

and look out in the mail later in the week for a long promised gift :-[(sorry about the delay)

KDX spare flywheels? rare as rocking horse poo  :D

don't drop them or hit with hammer when removing because the glue that retains the magnets will let go.
I think that rust can creep in also and loosen the magnets so give them a spray with inox or similar.

hello paulr,
speedo drive?if you mean tacho drive then I hope you fitted something to get the oil from the case to the galleries when you removed it. :-\

I found there was a difference somewhere in the two models, one had a restrictor jet inside the tacho drive shaft and one did not?

MX?  good to see the progress,I won't get to race you due to retirement but my bike should have a new owner soon and it will be back out there roosting ;D

Bike Talk / when cheap is expensive

Its the old catchcry "you get what you pay for "

here is a pic of a chinese front sprocket that has exploded.

this has then unloaded the chain thru the cover and trashed the stator.

The customer has learned that the E-bay bargain was not so good after all

I havent been on the forum for a while but it puts things into reality when forum members home areas are mentioned in the news reports.
My wishes are with them at this time, its comparable to having concerns for family or mates even though
I have never met them.

I had trouble with those float pin posts on a four cylinder.broke the first one gently tapping it out >:( then had the idea of a bit of heat with the heat gun.Used the owners  heat gun and promptly melted the solder out of the floats :o apparantley it was an industrial heatgun with much more heat than my own :-[

anyway we made a new post up that was captured by the float valve setup and with one new float it ran for quite a few years in a speedway racecar.

General Discussion / Re: Cylinder Resleeving in Brisbane Area
« on: October 07, 2008, 06:44:49 PM »
yep, serco gets my vote, resleeved fatboys XL350 out to 421cc using a XR400 sleeve and it was not a problem to them even using another suppliers piston.

Competition / Re: An exhausting question
« on: September 23, 2008, 08:09:27 PM »
the exhaust rule has the ability to affect the four strokes too,
my 74 XL 350 originally has an under type crossing from the right of the motor under the frame and up the left side.
I run a copy of the peter allen type and others which runs down the middle of the bike

so the wording has to be careful so as not to cause more problems.

Competition / Honda XL 350 first and second at tassie race meeting
« on: September 21, 2008, 08:57:22 PM »
well the mighty XLs have triumphed in the pre 75 class at Golconda today ;D,

1st Gorby 402cc XL
2nd Fatboyracing 423cc XL
3rd yamaha MX360
4th yamaha MX360
5th yamaha MX360
6th yamaha DT250

I think fatboy went easy on me just because I rebuilt his motor during the week and maybe the threat of resleeving it to a 110 worked ;)

we also caught up with MX? and gave him some encouragement and a swingarm
