KTM / Re: 84 85 carb issues
« on: May 24, 2016, 07:49:44 AM »
If its a Bing 54 Carby,(two screws in top type) the top of the carby can be put on 180 degrees out.
Take the top off and check that the cable is pulling straight into the slide. The other way around will cause the slide to bind.

Mick,
I always file(chamfer) the inside of the rim at the valve hole so the valve stem can lay over easily if the tyre decides to spin.I run the valve stem nut as a lock nut for the cap.
I use a metal valve removing type cap on the front and a normal metal cap on the rear.Always two rim locks on the rear and sometimes it still moves.
Too much power eh.lol.

Tech Talk / Re: repacking new sealed bearings
« on: February 10, 2016, 05:20:44 PM »
I was taught when doing this on electric motor bearings to pack them 2/3rds full to stop overheating. On my bike wheel bearings I wash out the original Vaseline they come with and repack with Belray waterproof grease and as said by others they last for years.

The DTM(mini) series are smaller than the normal Deutsch plugs and are better suited to use on bikes,I think they are still good for 8 amps.

Use dielectric grease on your terminals and pins on your plugs.Locktite sell a dielectric grease,it is very similiar to Vaseline.
As Heaven has suggested the self vulcanising tape is the go. Scotch 23 tape is what I use on all my connections. If it is stretched properly it will bond to itself,a rub between your fingers or a very small amount of heat will make a perfect seal.I do not use heat shrink over the top on my bike connections as long as it is away from fuel, the plug can still be pulled apart and retaped later.
It is a great product and once you start using it you will find many other uses for it.I also use it to seal throttle cables where they go into the carb and throttle as an example.

Tech Talk / Re: Fork oil quantity
« on: January 10, 2016, 07:12:07 PM »
Hi Craig,
I checked the manual and it recommends SAE. 30 with 200cc per leg.
It seems thick oil compared to modern bikes, but this is how they were designed.Thin oils make them pogo sticks. This will be a good starting point for you.

My favourite album has always been. DoReMi FaSoLaTiDo.  The song Lord of light still makes me feel like I am flying.lol.  This band (first album 1970) is only for people who enjoy electro metal music, most of you would say it is noisy crap. ;D
