Tech Talk / cheap DIY tool for honda wheel bearing plates
« on: September 05, 2007, 11:36:49 pm »
not my idea but still a good one.
take your 12 inch shifter(or buy a metric one)
drill a couple of appropriate size holes to suit two pin punches
and there you have the perfect adjustable tool to put even pressure on those wheel bearing plates.
would probably work on a smaller shifter for some shocky tops?

Bike Talk / Re: Stuck fork caps..now with stuck seals
« on: September 03, 2007, 07:13:34 pm »
hello doc,

I have forced seals out by filling the forks with oil all the way to the top and putting the cap back on and then compressing fork in press.

You can improvise the press by strapping the fork upright under something and use a small jack underneath.

The downside of this process is the oil mess you end up with when they pop out.

rescued an old swingarm from the local recycle shop for $2
wasn't real sure what I would do with it but it was too good to scrap.
I ended up using it for a wheel balancer and rim truer

General Discussion / Re: Noise Emissions
« on: August 24, 2007, 12:55:10 pm »
One of our speedway tracks is located on the edge of a small town and has embankments and trees around it.
The noise complaints don't come from the local residents, but from about 5 kms away.
The noise seems to go over the shielding and come down over a distance,if that makes sense.

I have witnessed this happening, and it is worse on still nights.

In my opinion,we will just have to grin and bear it as well as get smarter in dealing with the councils etc.

One thing is for sure, this issue is only going to get harder to deal with, and MA is on the right track in starting to do something before the so called authorities make up some knee jerk rules eg track closures
and not issuing permits.

in my experience over 30 years

I have found the humble spark plug cap to be the culprit on many ill behaving bikes.

Most later model ones have a screw in resistor that can come loose or corrode and are usually the ones
that are purchased new from the bike shop and find their way onto the older bikes.
Always worth a look inside them and not sure how the extra resistance figures into the early model systems.
