General Discussion / Re: Ebay "Silver Streak" 4 sale
« on: May 15, 2014, 06:28:59 PM »
Pretty sure history is something like this: Was imported from USA by a chap who worked in customs?? Current owner has owned it from soon after imported, quite a few years ago now and has tried to sell it for serious money without success. It has had minimal use since imported, but maybe current owner can fill us in?? Would be great to see it used in anger on the track.

Yes, this bike is well known to Swedish enthusiasts on this forum and there are links regarding the last times it was listed unsold on epay. I understand it to be a US import, no known competition history or competition preparation and that an asking price that seemed equivalent to three Maico Mega 2 may have put people off, but stand to be corrected if others, including the owner can fill us in.

Interesting post regarding Paul Keatings press secretary. Funny how Paul Keating used to denigrate John Hewson's Ferrari, yet his own press secretary was a car enthusiast and Paul Keating himself owned a series 1 E Type and an Austin-Healey 3000. If only those punters in Canberra would keep it real, instead of playing politics, then the world would be a better place. A bit concerning to me too, as I have owned the same cars as Keating and Hewson as well as the XJ-S and silver bullet of the press secretary!

White bikes are becoming very popular in vmx circles.

Thanks Michael, I figure you don't see many around and those that were, have often been made into a 250 or 390, so it is worth doing. Will call to see you for a few bits soon.

Maybe, but thought they were pretty good jiggers to run in 76 along with a 360 in the open class.

Probably would go well in the 125 class until you got caught.

Building up a 76 CR125GP mainly for nostalgic reasons and not to race at this point. Can any person point me in the right direction for a big bore kit for these bike? Seem to recall a 175GP piston and cylinder can be used. Thankyou.

Nice, especially considering US imports are advertised for similar money and are ostensibly project bikes.

People are buying the more iconic bikes as works of arts and not riding them as they value them too much and in some cases are not keen to use them in anger any more. Not good for VMX as a sport, unless the trend is to cheaper more modern bikes, but these do not exist and are expensive to race due to the technology involved.

General Discussion / Re: Ebay or Gumtree pros and cons

Seems gumtree was too big a threat to epay if former comment is correct. Epay is getting too expensive to buy goods, more a seller market in my view, but main problem is you do not know who you are bidding against. Epay binds your purchase where as you can be messed around considerably more on gumtree. Lots of time wasters on gumtree as the registration process is less strict. Feedback system is worthwhile in epay.

I have had the problem. Eventually came free after quite a bit of soaking with WD40 and plenty of patience, but certainly is frustrating. You will get there in the end, but probably not in a hurry.

Well I do sometimes wonder why I pour big dollar into Ducatis when the rice burners are mostly cheaper and often faster.
