Maico / Re: Rear brake help
« on: March 11, 2014, 03:32:40 am »
Got a 81 490 that has pretty much no rear brake.
Has new shoes and billet plate.
Who would be the best person to fix it ??

The new shoes have to seat in the liner!
Just drive a little and hold the brakepedal down while driving, that should help  ;)

And make sure the backing plate is correctly engaged in the swingarm..

My ex "works" bike: 1973/74 MC125, with alloy swingarm (Reinschüssel), magnesium front- and rear hub, footrest mounting point directly weldet on the frame (not the bolt on stockers), ... etc.
I bought the bike in parts and bad condition on ebay, just because of the "GP-hub" for my 1974 GS250 projekt. And I hadn't even recognized that it was from magnesium because of the bad pictures..  :)
The plan was to keep the goodies and sell the rest. But instead of that I just keeped the rear wheel (DID rim), reassambled the bike and gave it to a friend of mine  :D

I see they were using Blue as early as the WaBeHa

There are 4 colours on this Frame. The first was red, like that which is the last colour on the frame now, but lighter. That was also the original colour of the Wabeha 500ccm (Moby Dick) !
Then they have painted it black, then blue and red again...

The Tank was first silver, then red and blue at last.
Maybe I choose the original setup: red frame with silver tank or the aluminium one

What about complete red like this modell 67 here:

or a little darker blue than original

or thr original blue after some years in the sun

or the original green

I think I'll take green or blue for my 1967 GS. But  I'll combine it with an alloy tank (HiPoint Aftermarket, like CCM or Kramer)  :)

So while Mark is getting well and weller  :)  I have some hot stuff for long evenings for you.
Here is a link to very good racing pics from 1957 - 1972, taken during the Austrian GP in Sittendorf.
I don't know if it's new for you...  Unfortunately they haven't sorted them, so 500 GP and 250 lokal are mixed. But if you download the "Programmheft" you can sort them  ;)

Also have look at Hornstein, a lokal race !

ist schön geworden! wird sie auch bewegt?

Na klar! Sure it is ridden !
Einen neuen originalen satz Tank und Plastikteile habe ich mir weg gelegt und der Rest wird geschunden  ;D !
I've stored an new original dekor kit, including the Tank, number plates and mudgart, except front guard because i have none. And so the bike can restored to original very easy again  ;)

In Rain am Lech 2007 war sie schon mit dabei. This was in Rain a. Lech (Maico-Meeting) 2007 !

My nephew has ridden it 2007- 2009 and then my doughter wanted to ride it, but clutch and power was too strong for her :P.
So i decided to adapt an DT50M engine to fit in the chassis.
The Dt engine fits, if you take the clutchcover of the YZ and a kickstarter shaft from YZ80D.
And so i did it! The exhaust is an 50ccm as well and the carb is an 16mm instead of the 21/24..
It goes nice and fast enough  :D

Very old thread, but why starting a new one when I've just one remark to make .....

If you want the 250 to rev higher and vibrate less, take the lighter crank (3.7Kg) of the models from 1978-81.
It fits with some effort with the case and a new adapter for the ignition. I've used in my 1970 Square:

Husqvarna / Re: Original Profab Triple Clamps
« on: January 25, 2014, 08:16:32 pm »
I paid somewhere between $250 and $300 for mine less than a year ago. They are original ProFabs but there are both cast and billet 'replicas' available which I think aren't as desirable as the originals. They're cool acessories and you rarely see them come up so I reckon it comes down to how bad you really want them and what your 'silly money' limit is :D.

I've since put in a lot of work into mine to adapt them to my Hindall frame using tapered roller bearings, adding a couple of hundred bucks to the cost.

Question:
Are these profab triples from aluminium or magnesium ?
If they are alluminium, are they lighter than the original steel parts or just stiffer ?
Sometimes the benefit of aluminium parts are just in our minds ....  ;D

Maico / Re: 1974 Die cast 400 top end?
« on: January 25, 2014, 01:47:41 am »
Maybe I'm wrong and the heads for the model 75 are still die-cast  :o
Because I have two of them, both black coated and the casting is much smoother and without fringes or else ...
But what makes me wonder is, that the design of these heads is a fallback to the design of 1972.

In 1973 and 1974 the heads have much more material around the combustion chamber

and the heads from 1976 to 1980 are looking the same way !

One of the Maico mysterys   ::)

:D  I have seen picks in the web before  ;) It's looking very nice, but how does it ride ?
It must have been very difficult to lower the power and get mor torque for trial riding .....

Here is what Maico has build in the 60s:

I dont think the colour is original. It's not out of Maico's portfolio.
Normally the Frame was black and the tank red or maybe yellow or blue. But red was the prefered colour in those days  8)
