Title: IT 250 K AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY ?
Post by: Husabergpete on July 24, 2020, 01:20:38 PM
Guys I need advice on fitting up the air filter on a 1983 IT 250 K.

It has a cage with 2 x 6mm threaded bolts attached to it, the foam filter and the bit I have the problem with a pressed metal ring the same shape as filter cage.

Where does that pressed metal bit go?

ie Onto the cage then put the filter over both OR put the filter on the cage then the metal bit over the to, basically sandwiching the foam filter between the cage and the pressed metal thing.

I have asked two Yamaha IT YZ owners close to me and neither had any idea.

Thanks in advance

Pete

Sandwiching the filter is the usual way.

I’ve wondered the same thing. The airbox warps over time so I can’t see the metal ring having a proper seal so you’d be better off not using it and buying a new Tow Designs cage. IMHO
The UNIFilter Is ugly but has a nice wide lip on it.

Thanks Momus and Woody,

Victor from Heaven called me yesterday. He has IT and YZ 250's and said the metal plate goes up against the plastic cage. I looked at the sandwich idea but soon realised the stiff metal plate would not conform to the airbox shape. And when I think of it I can't remember ever seeing an air filter that didn't butt up against an air box to make a good seal.

Thanks for the help

Pete

The YZs of the same era were the same, my 465 I had the metal ring fitted on the cage then a twinair fitted over both parts. The metal ring increases the contact area of the cage which then helps it seal to the airbox better
