Title: Tires

I used to run Bridgestone 403/404 tires in the hot, dry, rock and sand we have the pleasure of riding in.
I always found them to be fairly sure footed but they're not made any more.

The replacement seems to be the Bridgestone X40. Has anyone used them? how do they compare the older tires

I'm really after a tire that is compliant in the sidewalls. I run Trials tires on my Freeride and love them and have considered running a trials tire on the back but I'd rather have a knobby for our wet season rather than changing tires for the seasons.

I'm looking for tires for my PE250B, not for racing but for trail riding, vintage trail rides and Vinduros eventually.

ive had good results with the cheapest tyres i can find in the local shops. Last gem was a duro?? - $65...never heard of em but been more than happy with the level of grip afforded vs the cheapest cost..amazing some times and its lasted a solid year of rides.. the "golden brand" is the hot ticket for the extreme enduro crowd on what ive heard but they cost lots and wear out but give good grip levels for serious rides. ive got a set of michys on my 300 kato and they have been good for 3 years (i dont ride it much ::)..)

X40 are for hard pack, they are good  for their purpose. I have had better results on varying terrain with X30 (intermediate) & have found them to be very reliable with good hook up & reasonable wear rate.  I ride a good mix of  terrain with lot's of rocks thrown in just for the fun of it, they are my "go to" tyre. The X30 front is very predictable & holds on way longer in it's wear life compared  to Dunlop Geomax. I have some guys who religiously use X20 (soft) fronts everywhere, they don't have any complaints, although they do mostly ride wet, sloppy crud. The "new" (not so new now) X series Bridgestones are a definite improvement over the "old" 403/404 series.

I give the x30's the big thumbs up, out do their Dunlop and Michelin equivalent easily.....but they are the hardest tyre to change Ive ever came across, once they are on, they are on.
