Here i have a Cheney Cantilever XL350 Frame and Engine, These where the forrunner to the Famous KSI Thumpers. Hopefully will be getting a cheney tank and seat base later this week. Would be willing to split the engine from the frame has i purchased them seperatly. Still thinking of an asking price so best offers considered at the moment

be pretty simple to build one up myself,old CR frame and a few YZ bits

have pretty warm 540 motor for the kSI bike

Give me an address and i will work out a price, just sent the tm cheney frame to the USA and it cost £150 GBP with Fed Ex. door to door in 4 Days. think it would be around the same price.

Good buy Matey.. Here's a basket case that was on eBay a while ago. The choices are basically two....build a KSI style bike like the one shown which is a Cheney and not an actual KSI or build it as stupid old Eric envisioned as shown in the basket case. Both styles are cool in my opinion.

You say the frame is 1973, under the rules of vintage would it be aloud to race pre75, ( l would say as long as that person can prove that it was manufacture in 1973. there shouldn`t be a problem, but he would need to have proof.

Dave, in the early 90s Paul Giles raced his Cheney XL in pre '75 here in NSW with no problems. I've got a '74 Cycle Guide (or Cycle) magazine with a test of the bike. According to the magazine testers, the bike performed pretty well until the Gas Girling shocks went off...on the third lap. With far better shocks available today I reckon it wouldn't be the problem it once was.
Pauls son Shawn will eventually bring the bike out of hibernation for some skids, probably at a CD style event.

Thats Great mark , what wood a nice frame like that worth. bring it out, l hate seeing bikes locked away in sheds, l say, if you got it show it off let us enbrace it.

It's worth whatever Marc paid for it. And Shawn is not allowed to ride the Honda in public because of his Suzuki contract. You'll be able to "embrace" it one day soon.

I have a few chassis parts kicking about so I will do it as silly old Eric envisioned, so short travel bike, will be good usable bike given that engines are easy to find.

How about throwing on the chassisparts from a cr250m? Just a thought, I think that the bike above really isn't the one old Eric felt was his most beautiful creation. At least I know I REALLY don't

Silly old Eric : stupid old Eric ? Bit rough isn't it lads ? He may not have been retailer of the century, but surely the design, function and success of his frames is above reproach ? Even the Ribi front end showed he was aggressive in his thinking into the latter years....and I don't think Rickman can boast a world title in their cv...
Phil Read's win in the 1971 world 250 title was on a privateer Yamaha TD2 with a Fath-tuned engine in a Cheney frame...

Hi, Think Your First Pic Is Actually A MK1 KSI, The cheney frames never had the Bottom cradle frame tubes, the Mk1 KSI had the same type front swinging arm mounts as the cheney and i think that the first KSI was just a modified cheney for the center port motor

Here's the best comparo I can find but with the bodywork on the KSI it's hard to check out any differences. The sideport/centreport thing seems to be the only difference between the KSI and Cheney. I wonder if the same jigs were useD. Seeing Marcs new toy is a sideport, he's probably better building a 'proper' Cheney, but in the end, he can do what he likes (and probably will

Yeah probably a bit rough, I acknowledge the brilliance of his work but after a mate being screwed by him twenty years ago, and me getting screwed by his son Simon 20 years later I haven't got a high opinion of their ethics. Beautiful bikes though.

Have checked against my friends KSI and its 100% a ksi infact his bike is marked the same but number xl16 so sister to the bike in your pic, couldn't see all the details but his read R&W which stands for Rustell & Webb, Mk2 XL16 then made in england, will post up the pic i took but its not that good due to flash on camera.

Wow this one really re-kindled some old memories..I was there the day Paul (Giles) unwrapped the cheney which he purchased on a trip to the U.K. .Paul had only one reason to buy the Cheney.. so he could put a four stroke motor in it and blow off all the two strokes!!From memory he had Edgar Phipps transplant the motor from the XL 350 that had run in the Nepean dirt six hour, look very closely and you'll see the ingenious PVC waterpipe elbow Ed used to connect the carby to the air cleaner. Twin Rear Girling shocks were as hard as rocks..& much to Paul's disgust the Maico forks worked really well!!

He did. I have a NOS Cheney Honda Center port frame hanging in the loft.

Funny this popped back up, the frame and motor are some place in the Pacific even as we speak .... I was in no hurry and Jon had a bereavement.

Anyway, there is a set of Cerianis and Rickman wheels in stock and some blue plastics. Actually I was pretty impressed with the job old Eric did on my JBR frame, it is well thought out so looking forward to building this one.

but first things first have to finish my Duke.
