Title: Honda CR125RH 1987 & CR80 bits.
Post by: Nathan S on April 30, 2014, 05:50:47 PM
Roughly speaking, there's 2.5 bikes.

1. Inspired by the ISDE/Euro 80cc Enduro bikes, I began accumulating parts to build an "Extra Bike Wheel" CR80RH-E.

The plan was to do it in 1986/87 XR colours (more or less).

I've accumulated all of the big bits, just haven't made it happen - I plan on building a KX80EBW instead.

Frame is good, but needs painting (whoever painted it did a good job, but didn't prep the metal properly and there's surface rust pushing its way through).
Forks are good. Some very minor rust spots between the triples, but clean in the seal area.
Motor needs a rod kit and the bore fixed. The gear lever has been welded to the shaft, but a good replacement shaft and gear lever are supplied.
Shock seems good. No visible rust on the shaft.
Tyres are brand new Dunlop K990s in 'baby size' - 2.75 front and 3.50 rear.
XR200(?) front wheel with 1.40" front rim included.
Airbox is included, even though I forgot to put it in the photos.
Seat is the optional high foam/250 seat, with good CEET cover.
Radiators are in good used condition. One has an old repair.

Photos tell the rest of the story.

$450 for all of the above.

2. Left over bits...
Ugly frame with plenty of surface rust, but still seems solid.
Shock in frame has rust on shaft.
Shock out of frame is from a 250 and has a clean shaft, but a broken bolt in the lower clevis.
Radiator shrouds are Maier(?), and are the darker red from an 88.
Side covers with black backgrounds are also the darker 88 red.
Forks are clean in the seal area, but have some rust between the triples.
Seat is the low (125) seat. Foam seems good, cover is intact but hard.
Red guard is new, genuine Honda.
Pipe is rough, but not rubbish. Body filler included at no extra charge...  :o

$250 for all of the above.

3. My unfinished project bike. It started as this several years ago, and apart from being pulled t0 pieces & spending money, it hasn't progressed far since then...

No extra photos because I didn't decide to advertise it until I started typing out this ad... If anyone wants any, just ask.

It had been run without oil, and killed the bore and the big end. I've got a new rod kit professionally installed, and most/all of the bearings and seals.
The original barrel has a new sleeve (not fitted), AND there's a brand new 88 barrel.
Pipe is OK (not perfect), no silencer.
Brand new TAG bars & grips.
Good cartridge forks (had older non-cartridge forks fitted when I bought it).
New linkage & swingarm bearing kits.
Shock professionally rebuilt.
Rear wheel has a near-new gold Excel rim.
Front wheel has been stripped to a hub, in anticipation of a new Excel rim.
Both guards missing - I was intending on buying a set of UFO plastics for it.

$... Ah, I dunno. It hurts to think about what I've spent, because I know I'll never get it back...
$2k and you can have the lot (including #1 & #2 and some other bits and pieces that I haven't mentioned). I am happy to mix and match bits if wanted.
I also have some wheels from earlier and later model CRs that will work, if wanted.

All located in Yass, southern NSW.

Simo, I have the following from an 89 CR125:
Frame (no subframe);
Swing arm & linkages;
Shock (rust on shock);
Front wheel (good);
Airbox;
Tank with shrouds (chalky, should clean up well);
Seat (very faded Technosel cover).

It's on hold for another week or two. $150 worth.

I think I have a good 87 Tank, shrouds and side covers for an 87 125 Whitey. Might be 250 ... Any idea how to tell the difference?

Bumping this.

$1400 for the good bike/best bits, or
$1800 for the lot.

Will discuss selling other bits separately, but won't break the good bike up.

It is bloody hard work though...  >:(

Found almost-the-right item advertised on eBay (advertised as Hi Flite). Sent a message on eBay, got a prompt response, saying "can sell you what you want, just buy it off our website".
Tried buying on on the website, got right to the end to be told that the website can't send to Australia.
So I sent an email to the website address. Got ignored for a week.

Sent another eBay message, got a prompt response again.

Eventually got an email invoice from them, paid immediately.

Took them five days to actually send the items.

So the seat foam & cover turned up on the Friday afternoon before I had to leave...  >:(

Thanks for the opportunity to rant. All of those stories about great customer service from the USA ... I sure didn't get it. And at least Ceet/Hi Flite got my seats here before my deadline: Atvunlimited and MrCycles couldn't manage that - I'm still waiting on bits from the MrCycles order, with no explanation from them.

87 seats are different to the 85/86's, but yes the '85 250 seat will fit straight on your 125 and will be higher (was a popular mod Back in the day)

Almost everything is still here. I've sold/used the sun faxed tank, both sets of gold handlebars and Mainline has his hand up for one of the seats.

Would love to sell the lot, but will sell individual parts providing they're not from the "main bike".
