General Discussion / Accommodation in Temora
« on: June 07, 2015, 01:44:25 PM »
What's the hot ticket for accommodation for the Temora CDT Nats in September? I've made a tentative booking at the caravan park by the airport, have I done the right thing or is there somewhere closer to the track? We're over camping unless we absolutely have to...it's an old bones/arthritis thing ;D. We were making plans to travel west for the MX Nats but with Temora on the same weekend it became a no brainer. I'm supporting the push to get enough pre 65 250's to constitute a championship class with my Montaco and if time permits, my Hindall Ducati. I'll also enter my Yamaha 360 short tracker but may put a 250 in it so it won't have to run with the 500's.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for one (actually I need two) of these? Even a cloudy second hand one will do for the moment.

Note rare centre port RM500 cylinder to suit the RM250 frame.

General Discussion / eBay versus flyingdg
« on: March 20, 2014, 10:08:17 AM »
Below is cut and pasted from forum member Doug Gardner's Facebook page. It seems that eBay took down some listings for parts after complaints were received from John Caldwell at Canadian Maico. Doug's helped a few folks on here including Brad090 and me and has always been a straight shooter with regards to our dealings.  What I don't get is how Canadian Maico can convince eBay that they are the only business allowed to use the word Maico in their listings? How can eBay or John Caldwell legally do that? I thought the rights to the name Maico were owned by a Dutch firm so how can Canadian Maico be called the "rights owner"?        Here's the Facebook link.... https://www.facebook.com/groups/492847434163162/permalink/549474375167134/

Check out what John Caldwell did to my eBay account.

Bike Transport / Mudgeeraba, Qld to Sydney.
« on: March 17, 2014, 04:23:32 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone living within a cooee of Mudgeeraba could pick up a bike and store it for me until I can work out a way of getting it back to Sydney. In the same breath, what's the best (meaning safest and most cost effective) way of transporting a bike to Sydney? Thanks in advance.....cheers, Mark

General Discussion / Sprackets
« on: February 20, 2014, 02:47:13 PM »
I found these brackets on facebook. Now you've got a use for those old sprockets you've held off from throwing out,  as wall brackets for your motorcycle themed man cave. As a safety precaution I'd mount them above head height though. You could really do yourself a nasty ::).

eBay Finds / OW mag wheel.
« on: February 20, 2014, 02:25:48 PM »
This is perfect for anyone looking for OW bits (Joan Crockett-Robby Dick???) or the punter looking to pimp up his Yamaha. These conical magnesium hubs don't come along very often. I had one and sold it for a lot more than this one is going for.

I'm selling this for a mate who acquired it direct from Ford Australia a number of years ago for use in a Cobra kit car project. Unfortunately due to the way these things go, the project never got started so the engine is for sale. It's a brand new unused Australian spec Ford 5.4 litre Modular V8 crate engine as used in current V8 Falcons and various American vehicles including the current Mustang. The engine is an Aussie spec engine with all of the bolt ons.  I briefly considered using it in my new Ranchero but at my age I really don't want to enter into an engine swap and all it entails. These engines go for 7k and up but my mate will take $5000 for it. PM me and I'll pass you over to the seller. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Modular_engine

General Discussion / Firkos new (4 wheel) toy.
« on: February 18, 2014, 11:08:58 PM »
I picked up this cherry '68 Ford Ranchero today. It's a matching number 302/C4 auto/9", power steer, rare factory aircon, disc brake model. Original factory cherry red paint, original interior, straight as a gunbarrel with only a tiny bit of rust in the tray. It's got MDS CDI ignition, ceramic coated extractors, hi rise Weiand inlet manifold with a 600 Edelbrock carby, 2.5" stainless steel dual pipes, lowered 2 " with drop spindles on the front and Bilstein shocks all round. It's got 14" Mustang wheels in the photos but the car comes with 15x8 Cragar wheels. The seller ran over a piece of steel on the freeway and wrecked two tyres so the wheels and new tyres will be on it when I pick it up late this week. The paint's in good nick but for a faded bonnet and roof which I think adds patina. Three bikes will fit in the back with the gate up which was why I picked an American ute over an Aussie one. It should look good with some old VMX tackle in the back ;D

eBay Finds / Trackmaster RT2MX + RT2MX 2 for the price of one.

It's a crap photo but the 'two for the price of one' deal for $2700 is a steal. The Trackmaster is the deluxe period frame iand RT2MX motocrossers are fast becoming popular collectibles.

eBay Finds / Montesa VR 250 Wheelsmith
« on: February 14, 2014, 11:49:05 AM »
Here's an example of a pre '75 bike with upgraded suspension making it eligible for pre '78. This is the type of bike that proliferated in the post 1975 era when people updated their short travel bikes to keep up with the long travel technology. These are the type of mods I was trying to describe as being quite common over on the rule update thread but I was firmly told that they were a minor contribution to the sport. I lived in California and I reckon that half of the fields composed of bikes like this up to about 1977. I know that it was a similar story here in NSW too. But maybe I'm just a silly old pensioner who's lost his memory? :) To correct the seller below....Wheelsmith became a Montesa dealer long after they started and sold them along side Maicos circa 1974 and later. I remember my hybrid VB 360 was very similar to this bike with Maico style rear end, Curnutt shocks and Marzocci forks and it may have been modded by Wheellsmith.
