Title: Sydney Dirt Track Series
Post by: Shaun G on April 17, 2013, 10:40:09 AM
Not that it needs much in the way of promotion but I thought I would share CPMCC's facebook post regarding entries.

ROUND 2 OF SYDNEY DIRT TRACK SERIES
Entries are still rolling in and some classes have near reached capacity with only 4 spots left to fill in at least 4 classes so if you have not already entered it's advised you do so asap to avoid disappointment.

There are a wide range of vintage classes on offer as well as a Over 40's Masters and the usual range of modern and sidecar events. There is something for everyone.

So if you are thinking of having a ride at either of the following two rounds I suggest you get your paid entry in a.s.a.p. You can find all the info you need here http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?c=1-7052-0-0-0

Cheers
Shaun

p.s. There is also a training day scheduled for June 15 which is the day before the next round. Big news is that one of the coaches will be none other than, Troy Bayliss Classic winner, Mick 'Rubberman' Kirkness. Places are very limited for this so once again don't muck around if you would like some tuition from arguably the best Dirt Track rider in the country today.

No argument from me Shaun, what a great development for Nepean.
I'll be there as a keen listener.

sorry slides it`s a great development for the city of penrith club not nepean.
Title: Re: Sydney Dirt Track Series
Post by: Curly3 on April 17, 2013, 07:15:41 PM
If it's good for DT's future or one of our member clubs future then it's gotta good for NMSC's future.
I certainly didn't mean anything by my comment but as you've bought it up there in lay's the biggest hurdle for Nepeans future.
It isn't a freaking competition, if this BS keeps up we'll all be heading to Sommersby for a practice day instead of Nepean.
Having said that Mick, I have total respect for your ongoing involvement at Nepean and what I've said is in no way aimed at you.
United we stand, divided we fall.
Sorry for the hijack Shaun.

The twins class will need time to develop. With a number of bikes under construction and being imported it's eventual success is inevitible. I'd personally have liked to see it kick off next year with decent fields rather than by the dribs and drabs it will this year.....but what would I know?

The success of this series is clearly evident by the creation of a new class called 'Future Pro" for modern 450' s

Aimed at the top contenders it should provide some great action.

With the classic classes almost full this is going to be a great day op racing.

Can't wait  ;D

All true! great day!
I was back to my old form, rode like an old chook, the track being very slippery in the first round detuned me, thats my story any how.

Managed two hole shots anyhow, so there!

I had a nice arvo in the winter sun sitting in the new aluminium stand with a couple of mates watching the great action....and Wal ;D. It was indeed a credit to Roy and the Penrith crew to see full grids in all classes and a smoothly run program. Every time I go to Nepean I'm impressed by the improvements to the place, the track was as smooth as silk and there was minimal dust. The pits are still one big mud puddle but some things will never change ::). It was good to see forum regulars Snowy and 2-NINE-7 riding at the pointy end and old Pancho continues to inspire me with his enthusiasm and decent turn of speed. Jimmy rode but struck a leak in the Champion Elsinore tank so decided that he didn't need a potential methanol fire, packing up early and heading home to do some painting...garnering brownie points for the future 8)..........

My star of the day was the little bloke on the KX60 that blitzed every race by the length of the straight. The nine year old was rocket fast, stylish and looked as if he'd been doing it for decades.

Yep it was a top event alright. For me the mix of classic and modern bikes is spot on with I reckon something for just about everyone.

Only downside was a couple of riders with injuries that will need sometime to mend. However Roy tells me that all have already said that they will be right for round 3 which is great news.

Cheers

Doh, sorry Mick.
There will be a few classes that you can ride your bike in Dave at rd 3, just not a pre75 specific class.
As Jimbo said the charity meeting in Aug has a pre75 25 lapper on the Sat and a full program on the Sun, the Sat night is usually an event in itself around the fire, bring your Berroca's.

Graeme Round 3 will be held on September 15, there is a practice day the day before so plenty of riding available all weekend.

And if you want to have another go around on a vintage bike the charity weekend on 3 & 4 August is a blast. I will put you on a bike if you haven't got one  ;)

Great! Full details should be available soon and I will start a new thread then.

For now here is the spiel our mate Slidey posted regarding last years event. I would think it will be pretty much the same.

"A meeting for pre75 & pre90 bikes only.

Saturday practice and two 25 lap races, Sunday full program of events for both pre75 & 90.

Camping available."

I am really looking forward to this one as I missed last year due to injury.

Cheers

Right I want throw a question out to the greater VMX community , last in my evo 125 class a gentlemen entered a 89 model CR 125 and wasn't picked up on till after the round he took out 1st now after this was brought to Roy attention he took the appropriate action. Now he has received some flack over this with some saying he should keep his points and the race should change to pre 90.
I think it's clear, it states what your bike needs to qualify for this class.
Cheers

Bretto, The evo class rules for the series are " air cooled with drum brakes with non linkage rear suspension". Now this chap shouldn't be in the class, it's as plain as the nose on your face. He should lose the points and they should be reallocated. Luckily for him he can enter the bike in a heap of other classes that will cater for his modern machine, i.e the Pre 90 class which would be logical!! I think there would be quite a few people who wouldn't bother showing up if the classic class was changed to Pre 90 because of one chap who didn't read the series rules.

what is your view on usa flattrack bikes my pre65 triumph has a pre70 disc brake rear wheel thats how they all are built.yes its not evo but should i have to race my pre65 bike against pre90 its only a club day.the 1976 bultaco astro came std with a rear disc brake.

Jim, your Pre 65 trumpy doesn't run a mono-shock either.
I'd personally love to see enough pre 65's at Nepean to warrant a class on its own, I would enter this class. The rules for the classes aren't kept a secret in this series, they are on the entry form, it doesn't say anything about year models, just 3 requirements...... "air cooled, drum brakes and non linkage suspension. For this various debate in the past, I have now laced up drum brakes on my Astro and don't have any issues.
Title: Re: Sydney Dirt Track Series

Blokes entering the wrong bikes in evo is common across all classes.
In round 1 a young bloke had an IT with upside down front end and a disc on the front and got the shits big time when told he could not ride in that class blaming the club for accepting his entry.
I would like to see something along the lines of losing your entry fee and spot on the grid for entering the wrong class, I realise that it should be something that the race sec should be on to but it really is up to the rider to enter the correct class.

You can always enter your pre 90 bike in with the moderns  ;D

Title: Re: Sydney Dirt Track Series
Post by: firko on June 26, 2013, 11:27:04 AM
I know that rules are rules but Jims rear disc is an Airheart which are notoriously crapola, much worse than any drum of the period but rules are rules. If I was racing against Jimmy I wouldn't be intimidated by the brake so much as the monster Triumph engine in his Yetman ::) but I think you might be stretching to get the bike into pre 65 Jim..pre 70 for sure. As far as the bloke with the '89 Honda wanting points in an Evo class race.......what the hell was he doing out there in the first place? Surely somebody tapped him on the shoulder to tell him he's in the wrong race?

Obviously whoever is doing scrutineering doesn't have his head around the legalities of the various classes. These situations should never get past the scrutineering line.

I spoke with Nifty and Ray about this matter Mark and both were of the same opinion as yourself. Now not wanting to sound like a old woman I've spent good money to try and make my little rm competitive, I think the classes are set not just for us but the spectator as well. But the rider should enter in the right class Full stop.

A BIG NO
so that includes 1974-1977 Astros how would you like that mr bull all that money spent on meeting evo rules and they put you in races with 500cc laydown sliders were disc brakes are ok to use. As there were first introduced by Alf hagon in 1973
They are a STD frame with changed steering head angle you can do the same with your dts and tt Yamahas
In fact its common practice to do it to 500 4st Yamahas to get around the ama framer rules
My Yetman is a road race frame anyway my champion is a framer but I have drum brakes on it
Title: Re: Sydney Dirt Track Series
Post by: cemotobull on June 26, 2013, 05:38:47 PM
The classes for the series have been set (decided upon by the hosting club, being CPMCC) and the rules are very plain and simple to follow. The classes were decided upon by reviewing the number of rider entries and their associated classes based on previous data (ie. averaging all Penrith club rounds from years gone).
These classes were also derived by trying to minimise the amount of empty grid races being held, thus saving time on a already choc-a-bloc race program with view of keeping 90% of the population happy.

99% of riders are not having any issues following the classes and associated class rules. I don't know why there is any issues. Read the rules on the entry form. If my Astro is air cooled, has drum brakes, and non linkage rear suspension then bingo, i comply. I would love to see a pre75 class but reality is based on previous club entries, it isn't feasible for the SDTS. Good news is, we have the charity day for this class.
Title: Re: Sydney Dirt Track Series
Post by: SlideRulz on June 26, 2013, 05:47:46 PM
Penrith are not gunna be able to cater for every possible Classic class so apart from the most popular Pre75 the rest just get jumbled in together somewhere.
A bit hard to call it a 3 meeting series if they change the goalposts for evey meeting.
I don't have a problem with the Flattrackers being mixed in with the Sliders, but, next year.
Title: Re: Sydney Dirt Track Series
Post by: jimg1au on June 26, 2013, 06:03:23 PM
WHY
the nepean raceway is the only place that run sliders on there own on club days
now you want to add with them other bikes
why not have the slider class banned and run all together as they were in the 60s 70s and 80s.
that would free up more races for other classes
cheers

Because only 3 Sliders turn up and on the other hand we struggle to pick the correct class for some specific Flattrackers.
If numbers dictate a change after next year then so be it.
By the way Jim, I've def got a rear wheel you can use for Temora.

I actually like the idea of the sliders running in their own event, however I'm a bit dissapointed to see the lack of good size entry lists, where the hell are they all, its pretty grim  when one race is actually won by a 75 yr old. Accepting entries from genuine flat track machinery could be a good plan to boost the spectical and get a bit more competition going, but as slides said not this year, leave the goal posts where they are for the series.

Other than that, the Sydney West Series has been a spectacular success story, thanks to the CPMCC management team, but its become an open meeting.

More than a few are hankering for the relaxed lower pressure of a 'club event.'

 your's in sport, pancho.

The flat track entries will be low this year until all of the bikes are built.....next year should be a different case. The slider situation however is a problem. There are shitloads of bikes out there including some owned by forum members that haven't been seen in action for yonks. I know that health and business pressures are keeping Jonesy away but where are the rest? I've seen a lot of talk on here lamenting the demise of the slider but I'm still to see something positive being actually done to reverse the situation. I think it might be time to stick a rocket up the dormant slider rider population by perhaps using the Steve's *  facebook pages to lobby them as well as for posting old photos, not that's old stuff is a bad thing, like most I love the nostalgia but Steve's facebook page goes out to a strong slider group so it might be time to use the page to rally the troops for the good of the sport.

*or another purpose built facebook page devoted to bringing back the slider. Crying about the lack of sliders won't change anything, something needs to be done soon or they'll become funny little remnants of the past owned by old farts in cardigans and seen only in static nostalgia displays..

Believe me Darren its complicated but yes MNSW has revoked the track licence, for now.
There's a whole lot of blame being thrown in all directions but its basically because of some subtle long standing track changes that hadn't been picked up until some significant track changes were carried out last friday and sprooked about on facebook, hence attracting the attention of our governing body.
Nothing to do with the great success of Penrith's DT series.
I have no doubt we'll get over this hurdle and bounce back a better and hopefully more united group of club's.
People believe what they're told at their own club meeting but more often than not it's bullshit.
Viva Nepean Raceway.

slides sorry but I can`t believe that Facebook attracted the attention of mnsw.i think you may find out the truth at the next nepean meet.
anyhow slides keep up the good work in the group.

There are people with a not very hidden agenda attempting to sabotage a very succesful series because it appears they have been shown up.

One way or another the third round will be held!
 cheers.

I would have thought that a track inspection would have been done a little earlier if someone thought something was not right so that any problems could have been rectified in time for the meeting.

You would think that the crew running the show would want the facility used as much as possible to keep the revenue coming in.  ::)

Official response Roy fellas(for those who didnt get email)
It is with great regret that I must inform all of those entered for the 3rd round of the S.D.T.S that unfortunately due to circumstances outside of this clubs control that this Sundays event has been postponed untill another date can be arranged
most likely date will be the 27th of october at Nepean providing all of the track licensing issues have been resolved.
The track was unable to be relicienced today due to fence height issues and clearance issues.

The Saturday practice that was set down has had to be also cancelled but what has been arranged is a practice on the 400m oval at a reduced rate of $40. for those still really keen to have a skid.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused but all efforts were made to make this weekend happen.

Pls pass this onto any fellow riders that may be effected

Once the new date is confirmed any member who is not able to ride on this date will be entitled to a full refund or a credit

Regards

Roosta

Hi Brett, at this stage the St G day looks unlikely to happen, unless they're prepared to run it as Shorttrack event on the 400m oval.

How come the 400 mtr track is ok to use now. Was'nt that a problem for King of Nepean and the Speeway riders day. I thought that this track was also unlicensed ?

Post by: SlideRulz on September 13, 2013, 09:43:16 PM
Hi Steve, the licensing issues with the 400m track were resolved several weeks ago.
The current problems as I hear it are to do with the fence height at a few points and insufficient run off on the outside of the Sweeper.
Frustrating but nothing that can't be fixed.
Who knows Brett, it might become a regular part of the calender, there's always a positive.

I had a good run yesterday on the 400 mtr short track.........the SC 500 ran well and I'm starting to get THE FEEL back.......there is an outside chance the 3rd round of SDTS could be next Sunday, but most likely it will be run 27 October.........there is A LOT of dirt that must be removed from the speedway corner to lower the level of the track to make the run off safer....... :( :( :( :(

Nah Brett, it's yellow and Ray ran his number 46 mate, he got third in the Super Seniors class. Just got the old girl back today after the crank let go on Ray, he wanted to have it fixed before he brought it back more credit for doing so, but he didn't have too but my old mate insisted ;D

A quick note to anybody that has never tried Dirt Track that this Saturday there will be a come and try day at Nepean.

This is open to only riders who have never ridden Dirt Track before and there will be sessions for ladies, juniors, ma licence holders from other disciplines and absolute newbies.

So no matter what your level you will be amongst friends on the track.

There will also be a couple of trolleys there too if you were interested in hanging off the side for a bit  ;D

Check out https://www.facebook.com/cpmcc.dirt.track (https://www.facebook.com/cpmcc.dirt.track) for more info.

On Sunday we race!!!

Cheers
Shaun

Track was awesome firko, i enjoyed it. The speedway corner was great! I rode it at a practise a couple of weeks ago and it was very loamy, but Roy and the boys put in a great effort to have it perfect for yesterday!!
Was a great day, except for a major crash in the RD2 second heat of the Pro 450 class. Hope the guys are OK?? Rd2 was cancelled because of this and we moved straight into the finals.

As stated above another great weekend from the Penrith club.

The saturday night was a bit quiet but enjoyable none the less.

Congratulations to the series winners especially Snowy who took out the pre 70, Evo 250 and the thumpers!

As for dedication from the club you will find it hard to top a bloke in a neck brace and an arm in a sling shovelling dirt one handed and cleaning the start line with a blower, Aldo you are the man!

Thanks to all involved in the club and all of the other riders for making these events so memorable.

The format for next year with some away racing sounds great, bring it on  ;D

The only sour note was some scumbag driving in and theiving a bag of riding gear and some other stuff, hang him high.

Hpoe the crash victims are OK.
Cheers Darren

I was very humbled by the generosity of John Ewing and 'OLD MATE RACING' with the beautiful  'Super Senior' item, a bit emotional that.

Congratulations Pancho and well done, the Super Senior item was thoroughly deserved.
John Ewing is a true gentleman.

I only hope that I can still turn up with a couple of bikes and curculate as well as you when I am your age.
The body is currently telling me that I am being a little too ambitious.
Cheers Darren
