Back in the Very late 80's early 90's Ohlins though Yamaha (the parent company at the time) marketed a 360cc kit for YZ250's to help them keep up with the rest of the Jap bikes.  ;)

the kit from memory had a piston, barrell and head and well as a small metronome to tune them.  :D

Very interesting. So Yamaha would have used Ohlins in a similar way to, Honda with Mugen .

sort of but i as far as i know it was a one only. the reason was the old YZ490 had been retired and they needed a big bore for the open class. the kits come up on Ebay from time to time.

Just repainted the sidecar, looks good and also we have a new engine and hopefully have sorted the ignition, so here's to a new year, it worked out that Vaughn and l had not finished a meeting for a year due to break downs, and lve just bought a new CR250 79 model with a bucket load of goodies on it
IN IT FOR THE FUN OF IT. LIKE MR NIKE SAYS JUST DO IT.

Spot on Hoony,
the kit also uses a longer conrod in the 250 crank with only a small amount of case machining required, back in the day the racers with the right contacts got hold of these kits and left our 250`s for dead. As they say ya can`t beat cubes, can`t wait to try it.  Peter.

YZ 360 kit.

I can`t wait to race this thing as it has an Ohlins 360 top end on it and should really get up and go, this year i only managed to do 1 race meeting which is just bullshit. Plan is to be at every Viper round in 2011 no matter what is going on at work, that shit will still be there on the Monday.

I like it. Especially with the era seat cover. Not that its necessarily good taste but its of the era which is what I like about it.

At the risk of being attacked by the other residents at the old folks home, I really like both of these bikes. The C&J Honda has all of the hot rod cred and immaculate finish I love in a bike and the YZ360 is a gem made even sweeter by that trick top end, I even like the sick* seat graphics.
I had an 89 YZ250 for a while and I remember it was a gem, despite some power valve linkage problems from memory.

*Is that correct nu speak? I want to get it right!

'Fully sick ' Firko. Remember, grammar not required. Even 'full sick' works.

Leave it. I would. Captures the era.
The C and J is awesome.

I'm more than certain I won't be racing motocross any time soon but will be putting some guest riders on board a couple of my bikes for the Nats and some other big meets in 2011. It'll be the same story for the vintage dirt track Nats and other bigger meets. I really hope to get out and chuck a few skids on all of the below at some vintage dirt track club days and do a few loops at Shoey and Ribbos vinduros during the year too. I'm especially looking forward to riding the big Benelli....wait 'til you see her....sooooo trick! Total overkill.
The main motocross development however is going into the B&S TM400 and Cheney as serious class contenders with the right rider/s on board.
*Cheney Yamaha 360.....pre '70 500  motocross
*Hindall Yamaha 250... 'pre 70 250 motocross
*Boyd and Stellings TM400....pre 75 motocross
*Hindall 500 Triumph....CD8/HBBB fun bike and club day pre 70 500 bike.
*Trackmaster Benelli 650 flat tracker....HBBB and dirt track club day fun machine.
*Yamaha IT175L....Vinduro funbike.

Full sick is about ten years old. Dunno what came after it because I don't want to.

F#$ked if I know what I'm racing next year - either events or bikes!
CrossedUp2 and I are hatching a plan to go to the Nationals. If that comes off, then I guess I'll fix the YZ125X's gearbox, swap cranks in the DT125A racer and dust off the pre-70 DT1.

The VR250 project has regained momentum, but cash flow is limited, so I'm not making big promises about having it ready for any particular event. Will drag the MX250A down to the Nats if the Monty isn't ready in time.

But really, I've got far more enthusiasm for Vinduros and modern Pony Express type events ATM.

For the Vinduros, the trusty old '84 KDX200 needs an engine rebuild, but is otherwise ready to go again. For the modern stuff, the '04 TM125 is the weapon of choice, although I may drag the late 90s KDX200 out for a blat too.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.
