Maico / Billet Alloy Front Brake Arm and Backing plate
« on: November 23, 2018, 05:18:07 PM »
Hi guys,

Just wondering whether anyone has had any experience with the Billet Alloy backing plates and arm? I bought a (twin bolt) kit from Maico Only for my 81, to discove thatr the first arm he sent was for Pre 81 and the replacement arm he sent was for a 74. Moral of the story is that he can't supply me with an 81 twin bolt kit. Maico only have informed me they can only swap it out with a single bolt kit. Any thoughts? As you are well aware these kits are not cheap and currently this kit is useless to me.

Maico / Bing Carby Parts
« on: June 25, 2018, 07:34:19 PM »
G'day all,

Been doing some research on buying some new parts for the bing carby and discovered that Enduroklassiker is a lot cheaper to buy parts from, compared to directly from Bing USA. Can someone confirm that these parts are genuine bing components from Enduroklassiker?

Cheers,

Peely.

Maico / Maico 490 1981 Mega 2 - starting issues
« on: February 17, 2017, 01:04:42 AM »
G'day fellow maico enthusiasts!

I am seeking some "maico" specific advice on starting my new toy.

I bought the bike a couple of months ago from interstate and have been trying to start it, but can't seem to get it firing. I have cleaned the carby, swapped carbys with my old boys 490, installed a decomp valve, new spark plug. Have tried kicking and push starting, however still no luck. I have bought a new spark plug cap yesterday so tomorrow I will install and see whether it has a win. I am thinking it could be low on spark?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

Peely

Tech Talk / 1981 Maico Fork Service Question.
« on: October 15, 2016, 01:11:40 PM »
Hi fellow Maico enthusiasts this is a post that I have been sent from the old man, who is still awaiting access to the forum so I have posted it on his behalf. Thanks.

It is time to service my 1981 Maico forks after some handy tips already!
What is the best technique and tools to use to remove the aluminum Bush f. damper (p/n 6458) from the Damper tube (p/n 6442) without damaging the aluminum Bush ?

Who provides the best service on re chroming  fork tubes at a reasonable price ?

Is there any suggestions or pit falls I need to look out for during the service?

Thanks Phil

General Discussion / Maico 1982 250 Alpha 1 or 1990 CR500
« on: October 05, 2016, 04:58:52 PM »
Hi all,

I am wanting to organise a VMX bike to race for next season. I was planning on restoring a Maico 250 Alpha 1 that is in bits at the back of the shed, however without going crazy on appearance the rebuild would probably set me back 4k give or take. I have been pondering as to what VMX bike I would truly like and have came to conclusion of a 1990 Cr500 with 1990 been my birth year. I know the Alpha 1 was what destroyed Maico but if the rear suspension can be modified I'm assuming it would be a fun bike to ride in Pre 85. The old man has the 81 490 so I was thinking the 250 single shock would be good a competitor.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

Cheers, Peely.

Tech Talk / Recommended boilermakers in Perth
« on: May 18, 2016, 12:55:44 PM »
Can someone please recommend a good boilermaker in Perth who will assist me with some mods to my 1975 cr125m frame. I require the rear frame loop to be bent up and some small welding jobs. I have only been messed around so far. Someone who has a passion for Vintage bikes would be ideal.

Thanks, Peely!!!

Tech Talk / New to VMX, 1975 Cr 125m
« on: September 02, 2015, 02:01:24 AM »
Hi all,

I am new to the VMX scene and have just commenced my first project 1975 Honda Cr 125m.

Over the past couple of days I have been doing extensive research (treasure hunt) trying to locate parts. With all the wisdom amongst the group I would love some guidance on a few things:

1. What size excel front rim can I run on a Cr 125m? I have been chasing a excel rim, same spec as stock 1.40x21 36H, however I have been told excel no longer make this size. I understand the original rims were DID, however the spoke kits suggest using excel rims...

2. What rear shocks to run and the best place to purchase from?

3. Lastly are there any recommended spray painters in Perth, for when I'm ready to paint the frame and motor?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers, peely_14  :D
