Ventilated Front Plate
« on: January 19, 2008, 01:12:50 PM »
I'm still on the lookout for one of these and have just found a better photo.
Must be yellow.
The little holes all over it are square and the numbers are held on by little plastic bolts.
Any information as to what brand it is would also be greatly appreciated.
I also think it may have had 2 of those extensions that go up to the bars originally. I seem to remember cutting one off. Maybe..................... ?
Thanks in advance.  ;D

im now 90 % sure its a Answer products brand.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170176253509&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

item 170176253509
i was going to buy this one but missed it. bugger. it was one of those things where i let it go thinking no one would buy it and i would grab it later. i reckon if i got you probably could of twisted my arm for it though. but still its slightly differernt to yours. i will go back through my stuff and see if its the same as maier or acerbis one or something like that but i think we worked out it wasnt those brands either. someone suggested its a Preston Petty one. you thought it was an O'neal. it looks very similar to the Answer one though except with no cable saver strap thing.

nice alloy tank. its good to hear you are progressing on this project

It may well be an Answer one, but it's not the same as the one on eBay. That hasn't got the extension bits and the holes look round.
None the less, I would buy one of those as it's pretty close.
That alloy tank was pretty agricultural, actually. But I had ordered a plastic one from the U.S., it got here a week before I was leaving for Finke only to find it was for an '85 model. So I had to get a local engineering joint to whip that up for me. Cost me $800.  :o
As for "progressing"............ I wouldn't say that!  ;)
I'm still buying up bits for it, but I haven't actually done any work to it.
Starting to get a little more interested at least and hopefully next month I'll find some time to do a bit on it.

I changed my mind. I’m now 100% sure it’s a Maier one! Look at this black one. This has to be it for sure.

Part number 4210 – Maier Stadiumx Supervent number plate, available in black, green, red, yellow

I cant tell from my catalogue if its small round or square holes.

Search ebay or try emailing Maier, maybe they have a nos one laying around

This is from a 90/91 Maier catalogue. they must of still had these from the mid 80's

i also just asked the seller of the Answer one and he says hes got no more of those

No unfortunately I don’t. In Australia Conco trading which is now McLeod accessories use to be the importer but their stocks of Maier has dryed up a long time ago. If Maier still have the mould maybe they could make one for you. I think ebay is the best option. I wish I got that Answer plate, but the thing putting me off from buying it was the thought of trying to find the plastic screw on numbers. Now its unlikely I will ever see one on ebay again. Sorry but I don’t think I can be of much more help, but at least you know the brand now. I will keep any eye out on ebay if I see one of these Maier plates for you though

I know it's no help now Tony but I saw one of these number plates in the Bargain Bin at a local bike shop a couple of years ago for $5. I was going to buy it but had the same thoughts as Leith regarding finding the bolt on numbers and hardware.

yeah thats the places your gonna find one and bike shops that sell old stuff they have had laying around for ages and then put it on ebay. now when i think of it im sure i could of cut some numbers out of black plastic and found some little screws with nuts and washers.
Maybe print off a photo and take it to the bike shops in Adelaide first. ive seen stuff like boxes full of Nos Oury grips at Northern Motorcycle wreckers and Oury grips where distributed by Maier and also sold by Conco Trading. Also try MR motorcycle wreckers they bought all SA dirt bikes stuff and maybe you could find a good second hand one. i remember SA dirt bikes used to have a lot of that old late 80's early 90's kinda old stuff. ask Cowboy Don on the forum maybe he could help.

Yeah, I've used Denis Kirk as well. No complaints. I got my last 2 pairs of black Ourys for $7.50 but the Kirk price is about right. I didn't think they made Ourys any more 'cause you don't see 'em in bike shops any more. It's all O'Neil or Scott.

One other note for you to make is that this plate may not exactly be a Maier. It could be a Cycle-Am front plate. Its listed under maier/cycle-am front plates and then theres a separate section with just maier plates. Cycle- Am was a separate brand/line of products made and sold by Maier. So keep that in mind. I think I can just see a Cycle-Am logo moulded into the the plate in my catalogue. Ive got a nos cycle- am fender here and its packaged in maier packaging and has a Maier sticker on it but there is a cycle-am logo moulded in to the fender.
