Suzuki / 76 TS125
« on: February 15, 2023, 09:47:24 AM »
My friend has a 11/75 TS125 he wants to restore. (The common “It was my first bike” motivation)
Parts he needs include Headlight, Speedo, and Top Triple clamp (Cracked right through!!).
Are these parts common to other models/years?
Thanks for any info.

I’ll try the Suzuki forum

The swingarm has a crack through an existing weld.
Anyone know what the alloy is? (6061?) or the likely “series”. (6000?)
Or what sort of filler rod I should use with my TIG.

Also any clues as to the best replacement bearings, top and bottom of the vertical swingarm mounted “Full Floater” linkages.

Thanks for any clues.

General Discussion / Dean Ferrris Injured
« on: August 09, 2020, 09:32:40 PM »
I rode at the “Ride Park Day” held at Green Park, Conondale, QLD today.
The sad news was doing the rounds that Dean had had a big crash and was airlifted out the previous afternoon. (I was entered Saturday as well, but numerous little “issues” saw me turn around before I arrived.)

Reports are: Broken ribs and vertebra. Condition “Stable but serious”.

Hoping for the best outcome possible.

General Discussion / Metal Cutting Saws
« on: December 17, 2019, 11:10:44 AM »
Hi experts.

Something I’ve wanted for a long time.

Thinking of buying a “DeWALT 355MM 2200W Cold Cut-Off Saw“ for Xmas. (Nearly A$900)

It claims it is “ designed for cutting ferrous & non-ferrous metals without producing sparks or heat”

Sounds like what I want. I’d like to cut alloy and steel.

However, past research indicted that Steel needed slow speed (Some “lubricated” saws run under 100rpm I think), while Al required a faster speed.

The DeWalt runs at 1300rpm, comes with a 66 tooth blade.

Comments/Info.

General Discussion / ‘70’s trials bike rego
« on: November 29, 2019, 10:46:51 AM »
Looking at acquiring a TY175, TY250, TL125, or TL250.

Leaning towards the Yamaha’s, as there just isn’t enough 2 stroke in my life, but a TL125 would fit the bill. (Anyone know how much heavier the TL250 is?)

For our use - intro to off-road/trials for my girlfriend, we need road rego.

Can anyone confirm which of the named can be registered (in QLD if it makes any difference).

I know the TY250 can be, I used to ride one to work.

Any insight into rego, or the models mentioned would be appreciated.

General Discussion / Track time
« on: March 07, 2019, 11:44:48 PM »
I received the “final instructions” for the Connondale Cup today.
After signing on at 07:30, and staying all day. I can expect 10 mins track time on Saturday. (1 practice)
Sunday sign on at 06:30, but am scheduled for 3 x 10 min races.

It’s a common reason quoted for people not racing anymore: ALL weekend, and possibly Friday afternoon for 40 mins riding. (Don’t mention the $130? Entry fee. Over $3/minute to use the track!!)

Practice days are about the same. All day for 30 mins riding.

I guess you have to have your own track, or go to a “ride park” if you actually wanted to set your bike up. EG change a suspension setting and go back out (2hrs later).

General Discussion / Carb drain leaking.
« on: July 20, 2018, 10:34:29 AM »
The float bowl drain on one of my Khein carbs is leaking, despite the tapered screw being tight.
No doubt due to them being 30 years old, and me utilizing them several times lately to drain some fuel through to get the bike started.

I think I understand the mechanics. Could it be possible that the point is “bottoming out” before the taper seals? Anyone come across this?

I’m thinking the O ring shouldn’t play any part in the sealing process?

For tomorrow’s racing, I’m thinking of plugging the drain (sealed drain tube). Can’t see a problem with this.

I’ll have to dig deep into the road racer to pull the carbs (again). If the “seat” it damaged is it possible to repair?

Thanks for any comments/assistance.

General Discussion / Maintenance fuel tank
« on: June 21, 2018, 08:37:13 AM »
I’m playing around with my old 4 cylinder street bike.
I’m up to the part where I run it up to normal operating temperature and then run it at 1750rpm with no fuel tank in order to access/synchronize the carbs.

Looking around for a little “tank” I had an epiphany: I went to the local mower shop and paid $10 (everyone happy) for a tank off an old whipper snipper. Seems perfect.
(I’d previously tried to buy a tank for a model plane/car, but most are electric now, and the outlet wouldn’t be the perfect size....)

General Discussion / Toll Warning $$$
« on: April 12, 2018, 10:07:10 PM »
Heads up.

I, like many, have a “toll pass”. It auto renews on my credit card.
I, like many, am a bit slack on checking what they are charging me for.

Recently, I checked my “trip history”. Interestingly my privately registered Transit van had been charged as a “Car”, a “Light Commercial”, and most disturbingly “Heavy Commercial” ($23.97 for one toll). All in one trip!

Looks like I’ll be in for some refunds (after I prove it is registered privately).

Incompetent at best, deliberate fraud most likely.

Worth checking

Tech Talk / Engineering idea (help me out)
« on: July 17, 2017, 12:54:05 PM »
I'm building a roof rack on my Transit Van. (VMX hauler)

The problem is the "pads"on the roof where the rack bolts  are slightly angled.
The uprights I've made are 65x65mm. To get them vertical I need something tapered under them.
Alloy plate 65x65 tapering from 1mm on one edge, to 5mm on the other edge would be perfect, but short of getting them machined as custom parts I can't source anything like that.

Whatever solution I use has to be able to take a little weight.

I need 10 for the 5 crossbars.

Any ideas gurus?
