General Discussion / Re: Testing yz465 ignition system who to send to?
« on: March 12, 2024, 12:59:26 PM »
So the message for all us is not to retire, we need to promote and pass on our skills to the next generations.

That would be ideal.
But it seems most young people (but not all) would rather be “influencers” than trades people.
I’m told by my friends still working in the trades, that the newbies think they should be “off the tools” and into management as soon as they finish their apprenticeship.

This forum is such a useful resource.

The info reinforces that the old school, “we can fix it” people are retiring, and not being replaced.

A few years ago it was difficult to find someone who could repair an alternator on my old Mercedes van.
Found an “old guy”, probably retired or dead by now, who could do it - he was mildly surprised that I was only bringing in the alternator after he advised that the large van wouldn’t fit in his workshop.

I also find these forums one of the best sources of information.
Many experienced experts, willing to help.

A valuable resource, where often answers can be found by searching the archives.

Facebook has too many idiots “contributing”, and I find, even recent posts impossible to find once the algorithm decides you should be interested in something else.

My thanks to the people running, and those contributing to, this forum.

You might be able to find some Webco parts for it.

A valuable and unique resource.

The “historic” “thing”is fascinating. I believe it’s mainly older guys (hardly any females) living out “glory years”

Reflected in the value of GTHOs and XU1s, etc.
The people who remember them from their youth, covet them, and some can pay huge bucks for them and do!

I predict the values will fall in the future as the people who remember them; “fall off the perch”.
Most people born in the ‘90’s, for eg, have little interest in the hot cars from the ‘70’s, and even less interest in the ground breaking ’73 CR250 Elsinore. Also kids these days are generally less interested in cars/bikes. I think it’s unlikely that someone, in 50yrs time is paying $50m for a Kia Stinger saying “these were a fast car, and used by the cops, when I was 13yo!”

This forum is likely to die, with the current members.

Great pics.
Some fantastic old bikes!

Looks like it was fun for all.

Something about racing older bikes - the emphasis seems to be on fun, and less on trophy’s
I just raced in the QLD Historic Road Race Championship. A pretty serious event - with a lot of camaraderie and good times.

Walter one can setup a trust to hold assets (I believe realestate needs to be owned by a company) with the beneficiaries of the trust receiving the assets of the trust upon ones death.

I also think one could rent a property from a trust at a nominal amount till their death without owning the property, thus reducing thier assets. One could perhaps have written into the trust documents they could use/rent the property till they die.

Therefore one has less assets when doing their pension application.

I think the key is planning ahead

There are solicitors who specialise in trusts.

I will look to find more information.

Good info, but your primary place of residence, can be worth millions without being counted as an asset. Unless you live in an Industrial Building, apparently.

Personally, I would value my fleet of motorcycles so low, that I probably wouldn’t mention them on any asset test.

One issue looming form me is my “residence”.

As I live in an “Industrial” Building, it will be counted as an asset, rather than a Primary Place of Residence, (Which it is.)
This alone would prohibit me being entitled to any pension whatsoever.

My friend has a 11/75 TS125 he wants to restore. (The common “It was my first bike” motivation)
Parts he needs include Headlight, Speedo, and Top Triple clamp (Cracked right through!!).
Are these parts common to other models/years?
Thanks for any info.
