Title: A kind soul that lives near GMC with a YZ250G/H
Post by: YZ250H on October 14, 2008, 08:34:33 PM
I'm looking to get a GMC pipe made for the 250H.  Unfortunately he can't do it without the bike.  Problem...bike in Cairns - GMC in Melbourne - over $1500 for transport there and back.  A long shot I know and a big ask, but has anyone got a G/H to model a pipe on that they would be prepared to lend for a while ?

There are plenty of kind souls on here (and I try to be one of them) but by the time you add the "close to GMC" and "250G/H" parts there ain't too many folks left.  Hey I have to try.  After all everyone from here on in with a G/H has the potential to benefit.

I will pay petrol for someone to drop their bike there, plus a carton of beer for the trouble.

I would prefer to keep my money in Australia if possible and if GMC can provide something I'd like to give him a go.

Not holding out much hope, but you never know.  If no luck here it will have to come from US  :'( :'(

Hi YZ250H,
i`ve got a 250 g that is complete and original and don`t mind if GMC takes care of it for a short while, i`m sure it will be in safe hands. Let me know if this helps you out, i`m about about an hour from GMC and could get it up there most weekdays.   Peter.

You are a legend Peter.  I didn't think this would be possible, but there you go.  I will coordinate with GMC a little more to see when he wants it.  Then we can sort pout the other stuff like petrol money etc.  An hour is a long way to go out of your way.  You sure you are up for it.  At least then GMC will have a jig and he can make pipes for all of us  ;D.
I will get onto GMC and PM you when I know something.
Cheers
T.J.B.

When you get to GMC, ask to take a tour of his workshops and give us all an inside look  :o :D

He just does hand crafted.
I was after the OEM look for a bike once but unfortunately, he doesn't do them.
However, better quality workmanship I don't think you will find.  ;D

Hey Geoff your smaller crowded tidyish rural back shed workshop appears to have turned into a mega industrial super building. No it is a small one man workshop with a very amiable time poor fella running it. :)

Anyone's welcome for a look, but you will have to sign confidentially agreements before entering, & be prepared to be searched upon leaving. Allow several hours to tour from one end to the other ;D ;D

Actually, don't turn up in the next few hours as my workshop was turned into a shearing shed late yesterday & I still havn't finished sweeping out all the sheep dags.

Its a strip search, full body cavity as well, beware (not speaking from experience, only what i have been told) on the upside it may also include prostrate check?  :D

That's why I want one.  To me that is a work of art.

You are a very generous man Peter, but you must let me buy you beer or something  ;)

Standard price for most pipes is $418.00 & mufflers $209.00
Pipe & muffler together $600.00
Postage is usually around $22.00

I'm afraid the year has got away from me now, I'm madly trying to finish stuff by the 15th, as I will go under the knife to get some hardware taken out of my ankle.
Not sure how much I will be laid up afterwards, anyone else had this done?

Hopefully I will have this pipe sorted in Jan.

Yes Gator and myself enjoyed the six hours we spent in Geoffs Shed!........ ;)

After 5 3/4 hours I stopped agreeing with them about how good Montesa'a & RM's are & they left.  ;D

Thanks to you and Peter (billet YZ) for a big effort.

How about some more photos from some more angles when you get a chance.  Can't wait to see how it performs.

Not a bad guess Vandy, I measured it up to be around 9.3 mtrs :o

I only took a couple of quick workshop photo's Tony, you will have to supply more photo's when you fit it up.

Hi all,
just thought i would post up an update to this thread. I have finally had a chance to fit the GMC pipe to my bike and give it a decent workout. The workout for the pipe was at round 1 of the Viper series at the Blue Rock track yesterday, for those of you that don`t know this track it is an awsome moto cross track and has a real need for horsepower.

I fitted the pipe during the week and am happy to say no mods required to fit the thing, a small amount of heat proof silicone around the joint to the barrel and to the muffler and not one leak to be found, you can place your hand over the muffler and stall the motor within seconds. No leaks.

Now the good bit, after practice i re-jetted only the main jet due to time restraints and i have a smile from ear to ear from the gains i have now got from the pipe. At the moment it is a little bit lazy out of tight corners but a quick flick on the clutch and it comes to life in a hurry, i am sure i can sort this out with a little more jetting and maybe a bit of gearing.

Out of the 5 races i did yesterday 3 resulted in a good holeshots to the first corner with a few good comments from some of the other guys, i have noticed a good improvement right across the power range and would say this is a strong 250 even against a fair few Pre 90 250`s which finished behind me.

So all in all thanks Geoff,  this pipe has given the old beast a decent increase in grunt and a big thumbs up from me. I will give you a call in the next day or 2 and let you know what i have ended up doing with the jetting.    Peter.

How much hardware are we talking?

I had a screw and pin removed from my ankle the Monday after CD6 last year. I was in and out in a day but on the couch or in bed for about 4-5 days. All good by about 2 weeks.

Thanks for the good feedback Billet, I will have to put you on my Xmas card list.
So now I expect you to win a championship with that pipe in a couple of weeks ;D

The hardware in my ankle was a plate & 9 screws, the moral of that story is it's safer to ride at Barrabool than to spectate. ::)
The removal surgery turned out to be no big deal, but I had planned it as last thing for the year so I could recuperate over xmas, it's been over a year now & it's still a bit swollen but apart from that all is fine.

I spent a delightful afternoon at Geoff's Hi Tech premises while he custom fitted my MK3 Pursang pipe. Not once did he offer a cavity search. Guess I'm not his type! See you at HBBB on Saturday Geoff. Jerry
