Husqvarna WR430 Auto 88

This would be an interesting bike, all the bikes I like are always in perth on the other side of the country.

They are fantastic things. Once you get your head around no clutch or gear lever you can ride them real fast. I had to put a "dummy" clutch lever (spring loaded) on the first auto I rode to ease me into it.

the "no engine braking" is the hardest bit.

makes you realise how much time you waste on a geared bike on a trailing throttle using what little engine braking a twoi gives to get set up for the next straight bit. the auto's sort that out real quick!

These models had their fair share of problems but nothing that cant be fixed these days.
The cranks were known to be machined wrong, the wheel hubs broke and the brakes were really shit.
They didn't overheat as easy as the air cooled which is a huge plus. The power from these motor's was top self stuff for anything. Put a good set of V-Force reeds and a pipe and you would be in heaven motor wise.

No
I raced on Huskies in 88 and two of my team mates had 88 auto's. To the best of my knowledge when I asked could I get one I was told there was none left. I doubt old Han's would have left any bikes unsold. Han's still had his fist dollar he ever made.

im pretty sure a container of 87 autos showed up in 1994-95. a mate of mine who had been a husky dealer suddenly had a new single shock auto and said that a container of autos had been found in the back of a container storage joint. it as thought that they had been knicked from the wharf at the time but had just been missed delivered...go figure.

still tho may be an urban myth

at the Husky Museum in Sweden there is one of those Australian "container bikes", it is still sitting in the crate, the top of the crate is open so you can look down inside 2 just as it left the factory, and if I remember correctly there is a bit of a story about how it was found and returned to the factory for display at the museum

I don't think this was an urban myth. The story goes that a container full of new '88 AE430s was found in a warehouse in Kansas in the mid '90s. Husky Imports Australia ended up with them for what must have been a good price and they were sold through Husky dealers throughout Australia for way less than other new bikes at the time. I know that at least 2 were sold through my local dealer and I owned a low hour one of them for a while. I think the one in the Husqvarna museum in Sweden was donated back to them by Hans.

Shearer has a new one with 0 k's on it and the Husky mob in NZ were recently advertising one still in the crate [ picture supplied ] there was also one that went thru Ebay a while back for around $7500 to $8000.
