General Discussion / Plastic Guard suppliers
« on: January 18, 2019, 01:45:01 PM »
Looking to buy a set of guards for a 1973 KTM/Penton. Not probably going with original alloy. What are DC Plastics like to deal with. Same guards advertised at Maxwells and VMX Unlimited but I believe there are issues purchasing via them.

British (BSA, Greeves, Triumph etc) / Ignition system for a 75 CCM
« on: August 16, 2016, 08:19:36 PM »
Need to fit an ignition system to a CCM 75 bottom end with the flat "ribbed" left hand side side cover. Early models with the twin big circles had room to put something like a HPI system on the shaft but this can't be done unless resplitting the motor, longer journal and new side over purchased. Have a magic box but also looking at alternatives as you just don't know when the magic box runs out of oomph. Thoughts?

British (BSA, Greeves, Triumph etc) / Carbie inlet sealant
« on: November 06, 2015, 07:49:25 AM »
Have the half inch fibre  sealing plate on my CCM motor and just wondering what people use to seal the plate to the motor and then the inlet tract to the plate. Want something that seals obviously but doesn't destroy/ is able to be removed when the motor needs to be rebuilt.

Vintage Track / 2 valve Jawa age?
« on: August 04, 2015, 02:05:22 PM »
About to rebuild a 2valve motor. it is stamped 5371 with small Eso stampings on each side. Also above is a small 81.7 stamp. Would I be correct in assuming it was the 53 motor of that type made in 1971 and that the stroke is 81.7 making it a short stroke motor?

Vintage Track / Speedway super slueths

Half way between Chiltern and Barnawartha (25k from Albury/Wodonga) is a nice little speedway track with light towers , toilet block etc slowly decaying. Local gent tells me it operated up to the 90 early 00s and was used by an ex rider to tutor young European riders when out here escaping their winter. Does anyone know it's history or who the owner was?

British (BSA, Greeves, Triumph etc) / CCM carburettor options
« on: May 01, 2015, 07:52:58 AM »
Have a 73 standard 500 with an Amal carb. Have a 76 500 motor to go into a flat tracker frame. Was thinking of using a mikuni carb on it. Just wondering if Grouty or Flower pot racing have used these and if so what would be a good starting point with carb size, jet and needle sizes. Thoughts from those with experience.

General Discussion / Tank/guards painter
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:31:12 PM »
Looking for someone to do a "show class" paint job on a fiberglass tank and seat/tail piece combo. Needs to be able to pin strip and inlay colours. Can easily drop of/pickup Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, albury, bendigo. Will be used on a racer but want a "sweet" finish. Looking for someone happy to do small jobs as many of the car boys don't like the small jobs.

General Discussion / On Any Sunday, the Next Chapter.
« on: November 30, 2014, 01:11:40 PM »
Saw the Dana Brown film last night of  On Any Sunday, the Next Chapter. Good film that follows the basic recipe of the first one updated with the crop of modern day stars. Robbie Maddison's stunt work opens the film and it does the rounds of flat track, trials, speedway snippets, centres on the road racing of Marquez's rookie year. Electric road race bike up Pikes Peak was interesting, time with Travis Pastrana and Doug Henry was good and purveyed a message that motorcycles can be mans friend with work in accessing areas of Africa with medicines . Scenes interspersed with commentary from past greats. Really no vmx other than a great shot of Dad taking his young one for a jaunt around the track while sitting on the tank of a nice mk10? Bulgy.  Film was part of the Tilt Film Festival. Nothing will hit the mark like the original but was quite enjoyable. Worth a DVD copy when it hits the market. Got have a great feed of sausages and mash at the Pig and Whistle pub at the Indooripilly Shopping complex. Good night complimented by cold beer. Really can't ask for much more!
