Kawasaki / KLX 250 plug cap resistance
« on: October 22, 2022, 09:19:05 AM »
Hi All
I've just replaced the ignition HT coil on the 1979 KLX. I get a big fat spark off the end of the plug wire, but a much smaller one off the plug, in a NGK cap with a 5k? resistance. If I substitute the cap for a NGK non-resistor type, I get a much bigger spark on the plug.

I know the plug/plug cap resistance choice was a big thing with old Motoplat ignitions, where a resistor type plug would cause hard starting. Is this still the case with more modern (Jap) ignitions?

I don't really have hard starting on the KLX, but conventional wisdom tells me to leave the non-resistor plug cap on the bike.

Any advice from the KLX experts?

TIA

David

Hi All

I saw on FB that Firko (Mark Firkin) is not well. He suffered a stroke some weeks ago and has been in ICU but he's recovering slowly.

Keep him in you thoughts and prayers and if you know him I'm sure he'd appreciate get well wishes on a mail or text or a post on FB

Kawasaki / KLX 250 L/H Main bearing (Again!)
« on: February 03, 2020, 07:48:36 AM »
Hi All
Around 2010/2011,  KLX 250 replacement bearings were discussed on the forum:

https://forum.ozvmx.com/index.php?topic=12384.msg193843#msg193843

It looks like Cloggy found a replacement for the unobtanium L/H OEM Main bearing somewhere. Was the bearing reference number and picture ever posted?

Thanks in advance

Kawasaki / KLX 250 Lighting coil - Is there a way to upgrade it?
« on: August 25, 2017, 02:39:46 AM »
There is only one 6V lighting coil on the '79 KLX. Is there a way to uprate the coil to a higher wattage or introduce a 2nd winding on the same coil?
Thanks

Kawasaki / Fork boots - 1979 KLX250
« on: June 15, 2017, 02:47:00 AM »
Hi All

It appears that the fork boots (49006-1009-BD) for the KLX250 and other models are no longer available from Kawasaki.

I have heard that the fork boots off a 1980 PE175T (51571-38265-38K) are a straight swop with the Kawa items. Has anyone done this before?

Spaniards (Bultaco, Ossa, Montesa etc) / 360 H6 Exhaust flange.
« on: November 29, 2015, 04:51:01 AM »
Hi All
I see that there is no exhaust gasket listed in the H6 parts list. It looks like the pipe sits in a small tapered recess in the cylinder, held in with a collar which has springs and nuts on the exhaust studs.

Do I have to seal the pipe/cylinder interface with, say, silicone sealer?

Thanks

Spaniards (Bultaco, Ossa, Montesa etc) / Motoplat charging wires
« on: November 27, 2015, 04:33:28 AM »
Hi All
There are 3 charging wires that come out of my Montesa H6 Motoplat stator. As I understand it, these are their ratings and use :

Yellow 35W - headlight
Green 21W - tail light
White 5W - stop light

Is that correct?
Thanks
David

Hi All
Does anyone have a new or NOS 70.5 mm (2nd over) or larger piston for a Montesa VB250? Or do you know where I can get one?
Thanks
David

Hi All
I'm assembling the plastics on my H6. The bike came in bits and it's difficult to make head or tail of the parts list: How many rubber cushions are there between the frame and plastics?

So far I've assembled each point with 2 tap washers - between the metal washer and plastic as well as between the plastic and frame.

Any comments?

Kawasaki / KLX250 Jetting question
« on: July 27, 2015, 03:16:12 AM »
Hi All
I finally got my KLX250 serviced and running. The bike is stock except for a modified silencer. I'm at 5000' above sea level and the bike was jetted 100% standard (for sea level). A test run last week resulted in a heavy black soot deposit in the tailpipe. This week, I dropped the needle just one notch and most of the soot is gone but the bike still pops and farts on closed throttle. Will that be as a result of the (rich) standard main jet?
